We examine the trend of toy unboxing on the YouTube platform. This trend, which has become globally popular over the past decade, represents a subculture within the unboxing genre on YouTube. The research focuses on the origins and development of the genre, providing a detailed review and identification of key YouTube channels that contributed to the rise of the toy unboxing genre, as well as an analysis of the channels that maintain its popularity. The review also includes an analysis of the most viewed channels and videos within the genre. Based on a global analysis, the study shifts to the Slovenian media landscape and identifies YouTube content creators influenced by the toy unboxing trend. We also explore the reach of this trend among the Slovenian audience. Additionally, the research focuses on how accessible these videos are to children in Slovenia and their reach within popular children's content. Furthermore, we address the issue of parental control over the media content consumed by children.
