In the thesis, we get to know and discuss the participation of young municipal councilors (youth includes representatives who are between 18 and 29 years old on the day of election) at the local level. Local self-government is an important element of a democratic state, as it enables decision-making at the lowest institutional level. It is important that the local representative body reflects the representativeness of the local population, i.e. also of the most diverse age groups, including young people, of course. Active participation of young people at the local level enables young people to express their needs and interests and to participate in the design and implementation of policies that can also have a key impact on their lives. In the thesis, we analyze how much young people are interested in local politics, how they get involved in it, and how active young people are as representatives in municipal councils.
