The thesis examines the impact of two prominent families from Kranj, Mayr and Majdič, on the development of the town of Kranj from the 17th century onwards. The Mayr family stood out primarily in the field of hospitality and brewing, while the Majdič family was involved in milling and later in industry and electrification.
The Mayr family began operating in Kranj in the 17th century and gained prestige through trade and the hospitality business. They owned one of the oldest inns in Kranj, which still operates today, and a brewery that was active until 1916. Despite the confiscation of their property after World War II, part of their legacy is preserved in the Gorenjski Museum.
The Majdič family came to Kranj in the second half of the 19th century and gradually became one of the most influential families. Peter Majdič bought and renovated a mill in Kranj, and his son Vinko modernized the mill and built one of the first power plants in Slovenia. This power plant enabled the electrification of Kranj and the surrounding areas, accelerating industrial development.
Both families had a significant impact on the economic, cultural, and social development of Kranj. Their legacy is reflected both in material remnants and in their lasting influence on the town's history.
