Environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGO) have become key actors in addressing environmental challenges, particularly in the context of climate change. They primarily advocate for sustainable development, the protection of natural resources, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the preservation of biodiversity. Their efforts are often focused on mobilizing the public, educating communities, and influencing policymakers to adopt measures necessary to prevent the catastrophic consequences of global warming. Effective environmental policies are indeed crucial for mitigating the increasingly severe impacts of climate change. In this thesis, I explored the role of environmental NGOs in shaping environmental policies in Slovenia and their impact on addressing energy poverty. I analysed Focus, an association for sustainable development, which is one of the larger environmental NGOs in Slovenia, and analyzed the effectiveness of their projects. The analysis revealed that the organization is very active and often successful in its efforts, yet it still faces certain challenges and obstacles in its work and advocacy for environmental protection, which prevents the complete achievement of its goals.
