Introduction: Orgasm is not limited to genital stimulation but can also be triggered by stimulating other erogenous zones. A baby's sucking on the nipple during breastfeeding can provoke similar sensations in some mothers, akin to the orgasm experienced during sexual intercourse. Mothers might find this sensation disturbing, as experiencing sexual feelings while breastfeeding their child is considered inappropriate in their eyes and in society's view. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the connection between sexual feelings and breastfeeding and to determine whether these feelings are considered taboo in society. Methods: In the theoretical part, we used a descriptive research method by reviewing literature in both Slovenian and English. In the empirical part of the thesis, a quantitative method was employed using the online survey tool 1KA. Our target population consisted of mothers who are currently breastfeeding or have breastfed. The questionnaire was shared on social media, in groups composed of mothers. Basic descriptive statistics were conducted. Results: A total of 532 breastfeeding mothers participated in our study. Sexual feelings during breastfeeding were experienced by 95 (18%) of them. Most mothers accepted these feelings, but some felt ashamed and guilty, keeping these feelings to themselves. Those who decided to share their feelings did so with their partner. More than half (69%) of the mothers believe that sexual feelings during breastfeeding are a biological reaction of the body. Additionally, the majority (89%) believe that sexual feelings during breastfeeding are still considered taboo in our society. Discussion and conclusion: Sexual feelings during breastfeeding were present among the respondents, but since they believed they would be stigmatized because of them, they did not talk about them. It is the task of healthcare professionals to educate mothers about hormonal changes and to present breastfeeding in all its aspects, thus demystifying this physiological response of the body during breastfeeding.
