Abstract
Raziskave v zadnjih desetletjih v različnih državah so pokazale, da se učencem pouk biologije ne zdi zanimiv ali koristen za vsakdanje življenje. Zato smo v magistrski nalogi ugotavljali, kakšno je mnenje slovenskih učencev o pouku biologije. Preverjali smo, ali učenci vidijo povezave med vsebinami, o katerih se učijo, in svojim vsakdanjim življenjem. Zanimalo nas je, katere teme se zdijo učencem zanimive in smiselne za učenje, torej bi se o njih radi naučili več. Želeli smo ugotoviti, kakšen način poučevanja bi dal učencem kar največ znanja o biologiji, ki bi ga znali uporabljati v življenju, tudi po zaključku šolanja. Podatke za magistrsko nalogo smo pridobili s pomočjo vprašalnika, ki so ga izpolnjevali učenci od 7. do 9. razreda. Sodelujočih učencev v raziskavi za magistrsko nalogo je bilo 217. Ugotovili smo, da se biologija in naravoslovje uvrščata med manj priljubljene šolske predmete. Pri pouku biologije in naravoslovja se učenci najraje učijo o človeškem telesu in živalih. Opazne so razlike v ocenah glede na zanimivost in koristnost izbranih tem. Rezultate smo primerjali glede na spol, razred in zaključno oceno v prejšnjem šolskem letu ter ugotovili, da se je največ razlik v opredeljevanju učencev pojavilo glede na spol in zaključno oceno, glede na razred oziroma starost pa je bilo malo statistično pomembnih razlik med učenci. Raziskava je dala vpogled v trenutno stanje med slovenskimi učenci. Vprašalnik je sestavljen na način, da ga bodo v prihodnje lahko uporabili še drugi raziskovalci. Naša raziskava je pomembna predvsem za učitelje biologije in naravoslovja ter jim lahko pomaga pri oblikovanju učnih ur, da bodo snov lažje približali učencem. Teme, ki se učencem zdijo nezanimive, jim bodo učinkoviteje predstavili, če bodo v pouk vključili tudi drugačne načine dela, kot sta praktično delo in delo z organizmi.

Title:Lower secondary school students' attitudes towards biology education
Abstract:
Research over the past decades in different countries has shown that primary school pupils do not find biology lessons interesting or useful for their daily lives. The present Master’s thesis explores the opinions of Slovenian primary school pupils about biology lessons, focusing on whether they see how the materials relate to their daily lives. Our aim was to identify topics that are interesting to pupils and therefore worthwhile for study. Additionally, we wanted to determine the teaching methods that best equip pupils with practical biology knowledge they are able to use even after they finish schooling. For the purposes of the present Master's thesis, we surveyed 217 pupils in years 7 to 9, using a questionnaire. We have found that biology and science are among the least favourite subjects, but pupils tend to enjoy learning about things like the human body and animals. We have noticed that how interesting and useful the pupils find a certain topic, affects their grades. Finally, the results have been compared based on gender, year level, and the final grade in the previous school year. Year level or age only showed limited statistically significant differences in the results, as opposed to gender and final grade where the most differences have been shown. The survey gave an insight into the current situation among Slovenian primary school pupils. The questionnaire is designed in such a way that it can be used by other researchers in the future. Our research is particularly relevant for teachers of biology and science, and can help them in designing lessons to make the materials more accessible to pupils. They will be more efficient in teaching pupils about topics they do not find interesting, if they include different teaching methods such as practical work and working with organisms.
