Abstract

Title:Creation of an as-built BIM-model of a multi-storey building based on a point cloud using Revit : graduation thesis
Abstract:
As part of this bachelor's thesis, we analysed the process of creating an as-built model of an existing building. We modelled the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering’s main building on Jamova cesta 2 in Ljubljana with the aim of evaluating the process of creating an as-built model on a practical example. The usefulness of the model depends on its accuracy and the number of elements considered during modelling. The creation of the model was based on a point cloud generated from 126 different scans. In the process of modelling in Revit, we focused primarily on modelling the load-bearing structure and some other non-load-bearing parts. We opted for manual modelling of elements, as it allows for greater control over the accuracy of the placed elements. Another option was modelling using automatic methods, which promise automatic modelling of elements. However, we did not choose this method because it did not offer significant advantages over manual modelling. The modelling was based on sections through the point cloud and additional measurements taken on-site. A significant challenge was the fact that the entire interior of the building was not captured in the point cloud, which meant that some elements had to be omitted. The BIM-model of the entire building was also created with the help of collaboration through the IFC standard, which theoretically enables the importing and exporting of models between different software. We also addressed the main challenges encountered in the modelling process and captured some of the key steps required for creating an as-built model.
