The thesis focuses on school celebrations on Slovenian territory during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph, with an emphasis on their contribution to the formation of national identity and collective memory. It covers key events such as the tercentenary celebration of the victory at the Battle of Sisak and celebrations associated with the Imperial House, including the sesquicentenary of Carniola and Styria coming under the Habsburg Monarchy and the anniversaries of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph. The findings are based on the analysis of annual school reports, newspaper articles and sources of the city school council in Ljubljana. The thesis presents how schools contributed to the preservation of historical memory and the strengthening of the sense of belonging to the community within the cultural and political context of the 19th century through school celebrations.
