In my thesis, I explore the experience of illustration with a focus on the tactile dimension. While visual perception is the most common way to experience illustrations, incorporating tactile elements allows for a deeper emotional connection and understanding. A tactile experience can evoke empathy and a sense of closeness that goes beyond mere observation.
My work centers on tactile illustration of my original poetry.
Through large-scale illustrations displayed in a gallery setting, users have the opportunity to explore and experience their inner world through touch, providing them with a unique and engaging experience. This type of illustration is intended for everyone, including the blind and visually impaired, who usually cannot engage with purely visual illustrations.
The final four tactile illustrations, approximately 1.2 m x 1.6 m in size, are created using colored air-drying modeling clay and plasticine, coated with epoxy resin. This preserves various reliefs and enhances the tactile quality. In a gallery context, this interaction is typically not permitted.
In addition to the exhibition of original illustrations, the entire collection of my poems
titled 'Before I go to sleep' is also available.
