In my thesis, I explored the use of cinematic metaphors in documentary films, focusing on an in- depth analysis of the film Fantastic Fungi. The main goal of the research was to determine how stylistic, narrative, and semiotic elements contribute to the creation and understanding of metaphors, which are crucial in presenting complex concepts to viewers. Methodologically, I employed a combination of stylistic, symbolic, and narrative analysis, which allowed for a deeper understanding of the role of visual and auditory elements in shaping meaning within the film. The results show that cinematic metaphors in Fantastic Fungi are essential for effectively communicating intricate topics and contribute to the creation of rich, multilayered narratives. These metaphors enable viewers to connect with the film's content on both an emotional and intellectual level, allowing the film to transcend its purely informational role and become a powerful tool for audience engagement. Thus, this thesis contributes to a broader understanding of how documentary films can successfully communicate complex and abstract ideas through the use of metaphors.
