Abstract

Title:Sheltered employment centres and their integration into local communities – a case study of SEC SAŠA
Abstract:
Sheltered Employment Centres (SECs) in Slovenia play an important role in ensuring the social and employment inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. In the initial part of this thesis, I presented their functioning, legislation, and the history of activities in Slovenian territory, with the first part also dedicated to defining the concept of social inclusion for easier understanding of the subject area. In the second part of the thesis, I focused on the integration of sheltered employment centres into the local environment, where SEC SAŠA, unit Ježek, was examined as a case study. Using empirical research, I attempted to determine which programs and activities the centre implements to ensure the best possible social integration for its users. The case study was based on semi-structured interviews with the head and guardians of the Ježek daily unit. Based on these responses, I conducted a case analysis and answered the research question posed - in what ways does Sheltered Employment Centre SAŠA promote the social integration of its users into the local environment? Additionally, I examined the challenges faced by SEC SAŠA, unit Ježek in its work and provided suggestions for improving its operation in the future.
