Abstract

Title:Liminal spaces: "44.49066, 20.2906"
Abstract:
The thesis Liminal spaces: »44.49066, 20.29060« is divided into two chapters, one theoretical and one practical. The text of the first chapter confronts the exploration of the concept of "liminal spaces" and the connection between physical liminal spaces and psychological liminal states, such as the transition between alienation and presence. It deals with the original idea of abandoned buildings as physical and psychological liminal spaces between the past and the present either in the context of politics, society, economic and ideological or cultural shifts. In the following chapters, the text focuses on an intermedia approach to the creation of the artwork 44.49066, 20.29060 through the use of different techniques such as video, sound and light in a spatial installation. At its core, the work explores the meaning and roles that abandoned buildings play in everyday life and our response to it.
