Abstract
Uvod: Osteoartroza je kronično degenerativno mišično-kostno obolenje in eno izmed prevladujočih kroničnih stanj, ki se pojavlja pri starejših odraslih po vsem svetu. Za osteoartrozo je značilno prezgodnje propadanje sklepnega hrustanca in obsklepnih struktur. Za preprečevanje napredovanja bolezni se uporabljajo številni načini, kot so izobraževalni program, fizioterapija, druge terapevtske metode, telesna vadba in farmakološko zdravljenje. Za obolele za osteoartrozo ima velik pomen redna telesna vadba, svetuje se tudi prilagojen program joge s stolom. Namen: Namen pregleda literature je bil s pomočjo obstoječe literature ugotoviti uporabnost in učinkovitost joge s stolom za starejše odrasle z osteoartrozo. Metode dela: Uporabili smo deskriptivno metodo s pregledom literature. Literaturo smo iskali v elektronski podatkovni zbirki PubMed pod ključnimi besedami: »chair yoga AND older adults AND osteoarthritis«. Vključene so bile raziskave v angleškem jeziku, objavljene v obdobju 2014–2024, v katerih so raziskovali učinke joge s stolom za starejše odrasle (> 65 let) z osteoartrozo. Rezultati: V pregled literature je bilo vključenih šest člankov, ki so ustrezali vključitvenim merilom. V polovici raziskav so raziskovali učinkovitost joge s stolom v primerjavi z učinkovitostjo izobraževalnega programa, v dveh raziskavah so učinke joge s stolom primerjali s primerjalno skupino, v kateri so preiskovanci nadaljevali vsakodnevne dejavnosti. V eni izmed raziskav pa so učinkovitost joge s stolom primerjali z učinkovitostjo vaj za izboljšanje moči in gibljivosti na stolu. Najpogosteje ugotovljeni učinki joge s stolom so zmanjšanje bolečine in izboljšanje funkcije, telesne pripravljenosti in premičnosti. Razprava in zaključek: Rezultati pregledanih raziskav kažejo na pozitivne kratkoročne učinke, kot so zmanjševanje bolečine, povečanje funkcije, boljša kakovost življenja in spanca, izboljšana telesna pripravljenost, mobilnost, ravnotežje in manj depresivnih občutij ter večja sposobnost za opravljanje dnevnih dejavnosti. Pozitivne dolgoročne učinke pa so spremljali v malo raziskavah in kažejo le na zmanjšanje intenzitete bolečine, izboljšanje kakovosti življenja in manjši vpliv bolečine na funkcijo. V prihodnosti bi bilo treba narediti več raziskav, v katerih bi preverjali dosedanje ugotovitve in dolgoročne učinke joge s stolom.

Title:The usefulness and effectiveness of a chair yoga on older adults with osteoarthritis - literature review : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative musculoskeletal disease and one of the predominant chronic conditions occurring in older adults worldwide. Osteoarthritis is characterized by premature decay of articular cartilage and joint structures. To prevent the progression of the disease, many methods are used, such as education, physiotherapy, other therapeutic methods, physical exercise and pharmacological treatment. For patients with osteoarthritis, regular physical exercise is of great importance, an adapted yoga program with a chair is recommended. Purpose: The purpose of the literature review was to determine the usefulness and effectiveness of chair yoga for older adults with osteoarthritis using existing literature. Methods: We used a descriptive method with a literature review. We searched the literature in the PubMed electronic database under the keywords: “chair yoga AND older adults AND osteoarthritis”. Included were studies published in English between 2014 and 2024, which investigated the effects of chair yoga on older adults (>65 years) with osteoarthritis. Results: Six articles that met the inclusion criteria were included in the literature review. Half of the studies looked at the effectiveness of chair yoga compared to the effectiveness of an educational program, and two studies compared the effects of chair yoga with a control group in which subjects continued their daily activities. In one study, the effectiveness of chair yoga was compared to the effectiveness of exercises to improve strength and mobility in the chair. The most observed effects of chair yoga are pain reduction and improvement of function, fitness and mobility. Discussion and conclusion: The results of the reviewed studies indicate positive short-term effects such as reduced pain, increased function, improved quality of life and sleep, improved fitness, mobility, balance and less depressed feelings and increased ability to perform daily activities. Positive long-term effects, however, have been little studied and only suggest improvements in pain, quality of life, and a reduced impact of pain on function. In the future, more research should be done to verify the findings and long-term effects of chair yoga.
