Abstract
Smolarjenje je bilo v preteklosti pomembna gospodarska dejavnost. Smolo so uporabljali že od antike, in sicer v ladjedelništvu, čevljarstvu, zdravilstvu in kemični industriji. Kasneje je cena smole padla zaradi cenejših umetnih snovi in smolarjenje je sčasoma zamrlo. Zaradi ponovnega poseganja po naravnihvirih so v nekaterih zahodnih evropskih državah zopet pričeli smolariti. S tem raziskovanjem na Krasu so preverjali, ali je to pri nas še donosno glede na količino pridobljene smole na posameznih vrstah bora. Tako sodobili podatke tudi o tem, katera vrsta bora je za to dejavnost najprimernejša. Poskuse so izvajali na 60 drevesih črnega (Pinus nigra) in 40 drevesih rdečega bora (Pinus sylvesteris). Rezultati so pokazali, da je črni bor primernejši od rdečega, kakovost rastišča pa na količino smole ne vpliva. Prav tako ne vpliva debelina drevesa na količino smole pri rdečem boru (Pinus sylvesteris), pri črnem boru (Pinus nigra) pa ta narašča z debelino drevesa. Z destilacijo smole so ugotovili, da ima črni bor večji delež terpentina kot rdeči bor.

Abstract:
Resin extraction was in the past an important economic activity. From Classical antiquity on, resin has been used for different purposes: in shipbuilding, shoemaking, medicine, and chemical industry. Later on, the priceof resin was lowered as a consequence of cheaper artificial materials, therefore, the extraction of resin died down. Due to the renewed interest in natural resources, in some western European countries resin extraction was started again. The lucrativeness of resin extraction in Slovenia has been investigated in our research by means of attempted resin extraction on the Kras, taking into consideration the amount of sourced resin from different pine species. The fact about which species of pine is the most lucrative has also been dealt with. The experiments on 60 European black (Pinus nigra) and 40 Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) trees have been performed. The finding about the fact that the European black pine is more lucrative than Scots Pine has been established.The sort of site does not have any influence on the income of resin extraction. It has also been demonstrated that the correlation betweentrunk diameter and resin yield is insignificant in Scots Pine while it is significant in European black pine. The fact that the European black pine (Pinus nigra) has larger contain of terpentine than Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) has been established by means of resin distillation.
