Abstract

Title:Sustainable unisex collection x01 Barbette
Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to create a sustainable unisex clothing collection made of organic cotton, based on the exploration of a gender-neutral fashion and the blurring of gender lines in connection with the circus, as a space of courage and difference, and the exploration of the sustainable aspect of fashion, more specifically the problem of plastic in today's fashion industry. The basis of the collection is the circus, a place where gender does not matter, and Vander Clyde, a circus performer who performed on the trapeze, as a woman named Barbette. Showing extraordinary courage for the 1920s, he pointed out the blurring of gender lines, in contrast to the well-defined gender roles after World War I. He packed it all into a spectacle. Diploma thesis includes the research of gender-neutral fashion, bringing together the clothes of both sexes, and the fashion of the 20s of the 20th century. It also includes researching the negative effects of plastic in fashion and natural materials, with an emphasis on organic cotton, and its pros and cons. I completely boycott plastic from my collection. I created five identities within the collection, which are different from each other, but complement each other. The characters were created based on the connection of individual circus performers with zodiac signs and they carry two messages: that clothes are only extensions of our identity, that they should not be marketed according to gender, and that no plastic in fashion is good.
