In the aviation school of the Slovenian air forces, many exercises are conducted within
the vicinity of Cerklje ob Krki airport using the Zlin 242L aircraft. However, there
is always a possibility of encountering issues with the aircraft or its engine during
flight or takeoff. In such situations, the risk of aviation incidents and accidents is
significantly reduced if the pilot is familiar with emergency landing areas and emergency
procedures during the takeoff phase. Therefore, we have analyzed the terrain around
the airport area and identified unsuitable locations. In potentially suitable areas near
the airport zones, the school circuit, and departure/arrival paths, we have identified
suitable emergency landing spots, considering the aircraft’s capabilities such as actual
glide ratio without engine thrust and landing distance. The takeoff phase has been
subdivided based on various emergency landing procedures that pilots should follow at
specific altitudes, for both directions of the runway and different available lengths of
the takeoff runway.
