Abstract

Title:
Analysis of friction stir welded aluminium alloys joints
Abstract:
Aluminium and its alloys are widely used in industry today. Their good mechanical properties, low density, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and excellent corrosion resistance are reasons for choosing these materials. In this thesis, we focused on the friction stir welding process, which is increasingly used for welding difficult-to-weld materials. The welding process is relatively simple and cost-effective, and the mechanical properties of the weld joints are very good. In the experimental part of the thesis, we analysed six weld joints that were welded with different parameters. In the experiment, we used high-strength aluminium alloys, types 7075-T651 and 2017A-T451, which are difficult to weld using conventional methods. We measured residual stresses in the middle of the weld joint, at the beginning and at the end of the weld, in the longitudinal and transverse directions, at the crown and root of the weld, as well as performed tensile tests for the beginning and end of each joint. We presented the obtained results graphically and in tables and compared them. Finally, we commented on the results and identified correlations with individual welding parameters.
