Language characterizes, shapes and refines people. Therefore, we decided to investigate the views of preschool teachers on the role of parents in the linguistic development of children. In the paper we have defined the difference between speech and language, the linguistic development of the preschool child, the factors that influence it and the role of the preschool teacher and the parents in the child´s linguistic development. In the empirical part, we determined the attitudes of Črnuče preschool teachers towards the role of parents in the child´s language development. The data was collected using a questionnaire and an interview. 65 preschool teachers were included in the study. The results of the survey showed, among other things, that the preschool teachers have a positive attitude towards the role of parents in the language development of the preschool child, that they consider the role of the parents to be more important than the role of the preschool teacher and that in our society the role of the mother is more important than the role of the father.
