The theoretical part of the thesis sheds light on the specifics of artistic concepts related to colour, beginning with an elementary understanding and progressing to an expressive interpretation through the painterly approach of colourism. We explored how primary and secondary colours, as defined by Itten's twelve-part colour wheel, influence perception and emotions, and how their expressive values change when combined with other shades. Additionally, we defined the stages of adulthood, the third stage of life, and the challenges individuals face during these periods. The development of personality through the process of secondary socialisation was also examined. Special attention was given to the importance of senior engagement for better physical and mental well-being, particularly in the arts, where creative activities can contribute to maintaining vitality and mental health.
In the empirical part of the thesis, we examined the artworks of selected artists who, during a certain period, expressed themselves using a coloristic painting approach. Based on this analysis, we developed an appropriate educational activity that was didactically adapted for adults in the third stage of life. The activity was conducted with two older individuals, and their artistic solutions were also evaluated. The research demonstrated that such artistic activities positively impact the emotional expression of adults, as they engage them both mentally and emotionally, while also strengthening the socialization component, which is crucial for the well-being of adults in the third stage of life.
