Abstract

Title:Analysis of the Šalek lakes drainage basin
Abstract:
The Šalek lakes, located in the Šalek Valley, include three anthropogenic lakes created as a result of coal mining. There is no regular monitoring of the water in the tributaries of the lakes and their outflows. The thesis presents the geographical characteristics of the drainage basin, the hydrological characteristics of each basin, the previous analyses of water quality, the potential impacts on water quality and the own analysis of selected physicochemical parameters of water quality in two seasons. Outflows from the lakes have significantly elevated sulphate and chloride levels as a result of former electrofilter ash deposition along their banks. Agriculture is an obvious contributor to nutrient pollution of watercourses, with higher values in the late spring measurement compared to the winter measurement, when there is less agricultural activity and thus lower water pollution.
