The aim of the thesis is to study the occurrence of severe and mild winters in Slovenia in the 60-year period 1961–2020. The analysis is based on data from 10 meteorological stations and their selected climatological variables. Based on the data, we have developed a criteria for severe and mild winters based on the standard deviation from the mean. A more detailed look at the frequency of severe and mild winters in Slovenia follows. The work includes an overview of extreme weather events that occurred during the period and an analysis of their impact on the course of winter. In the last part, there is a brief analysis of climate change in Slovenia and the impact of warmer winters on the environment.
