Abstract

Title:Liberalization in the Slovenian partisan film in the 1960s
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the question whether or not the liberalization of the political situation in the former Yugoslavia brought about any changes in the Slovenian partisan film, which in the first years after the war functioned primarily as a means of promotion of the ideological system. The goal is to determine whether any major changes in the legitimization of the NOB (National Liberation War) and in the potrayal of the main protagonists appeared in the 1960s. For this purpose, the field of discursive construction of reality is chosen as the basic epistemological framework, and semiology as the method of analysis. The analysis of professional literature and eight films made between 1960 and 1969 shows that, parallel to the liberalization of society, the ways of portraying the NOB also changed. The official ideology began to give way to autonomous writers' research; as a result, several quite critical partisan films were also made during this time. The biggest changes are notable in the portrayal of partisan characters. The final conclusion of the thesis is that the established perspective in the films did not change significantly, they remained "defenders of the NOB", despite some considerable changes in the ideological and aesthetic field.
