The paper discusses the relationship between dialect and the standard language in the literary text, or the role of eastern-Slovene dialect vocabulary in the case of three authors. The latter were active in different periods, but in the framework of various poetics, they verbalised the eastern-Slovene chronotope. The works dealt with in this paper are the naturalistic novel Kontrolor Škrobar (1914) by Kraigher, the domestic realistic novel Goričanec (1942) by Stanko Kociper and Vlado Žabot's Pastorala (1994), Volčje noči (1996), and Nimfa (1999), which are characterised by the poetics of magic realism
