Abstract

Title:Geographical initial letter of Janez Jesenko. The linguistic overview.
Abstract:
Janez Jesenko laid the foundations for Slovenian geographical terminology. He was born on October 7, 1838 in Prode, Poljane, above Škofja Loka. He was a geographer, historian, translator of fiction by profession. His basic parts are the Geographical Initial for High Schools and Realities (1865) and the Natural History Geography (1874). The work is written in a Gaj's Latin alphabet, the path was paved by Janez Bleiweis with the Agricultural Handicraft Newsletter in 1845. In the Grammar School for High Schools and Realists, there is an article entitled Earthquakes, which first name an earthquake as an earthquake and divide them into 3 types. The language is simple, there are doubles, the German word order, many Slovenian scientific terms are of Slavic origin. Janez Jesenko himself coined the Slovenian terms for earthquakes based on German, which is proof that he knew German theory very well. The 19th century aimed to educate people to read, so the works were written in a language close to the uneducated.
