The thesis exhibits results of European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus L.) growth analysis, performed in Dolenjska region. For this purpose, 90 trees of European hornbeam were cut down, and the standard stem analysis was carried out. Phytocenological analysis was used to determine 3 site units, namely Abioalbae-Carpinetum betuli, Hedero-Fagetum and Vaccinio myrtilli-Carpinetum betuli. First two site units are located on carbonate bedrock, and the last one on silicate bedrock. Stem quality structure was assessed; diameter and height growth characteristics and site productivity of analyzed site units were established. Results show that growth on the site unit Vaccinio myrtilli-Carpinetum betuli was somewhat faster, and that is where the European hornbeam is most competitive. The established values of site index SI100 are located in the interval between 24 and 27 m. Assortment structure shows a high share of fuel wood, in spite of that an important share of technical wood was established.
