In my master's thesis, I deal with the topic of pilgrimages that took place in the Middle Ages to the area of the Holy Land. The work covers several areas or aspects concerning the pilgrimages of that time. So, I write about the dangers that awaited the pilgrims on the way, about the orders of knights that helped them, about the importance of relics and why they went on pilgrimage where there were more of them, about the souvenirs that the pilgrims carried back home and about, why they went on pilgrimages in the first place - i.e., what was the pilgrimage's motivation. A special chapter is dedicated to female pilgrims, because their path was different from the path of other pilgrims. Each chapter is supported by a source related to the topic.
Although I write generally about the Holy Land, there is a great emphasis on Jerusalem, which was the most visited city and which the Christians considered most their own. The work also describes the other cities and places of the Holy Land that the pilgrims visited and their importance, their place in the Bible and why the pilgrims thought they were worth visiting.
