This paper presents the multifunctional expansion of texts and lexis; in addition to the emergence of new lexemes, the semantic expansion or reduction of established lexemes is quite common. A textual approach to the semantic expansion and reduction of lexemes is presented from the perspective of metonymical or metaphoric acquisition of new meanings, as well as from the perspective of new potential collocational or compound meanings; two other processes parallel in character are those of terminologization and determinologization of topical lexis.
