One of the purposes of imprisonment is to reintegrate the prisoner back into society after serving his or her sentence. Prisons have a variety of re-education, sociotherapeutic or treatment approaches. In Slovenian prisons, the socio-therapeutic approach is the most evident, as it is supposed to contribute to the successful reintegration of the prisoner into society. Slovenian prisons include education, psychological programmes, therapies, leisure, and pedagogical activities during imprisonment. After release, prisoners are provided with social assistance in the form of money, employment, and accommodation. Nevertheless, successful reintegration is a major challenge for the Slovenian penitentiary system, which is also reflected in the recidivism rate. In practice, as shown in several studies, the social climate in Slovenian prisons is more focused on discipline than rehabilitation
