Abstract

Title:Seeking the Limits of Freedom: On the Example of the Play Pupilija, papa Pupilo pa Pupilčki
Abstract:
In my thesis, I am engaged in the search for the limits of freedom based on the performance Pupilija, papa Pupilo pa Pupilčki, which was staged in 1969 in the Knights Hall of the Križanke in Ljubljana. I divided the exploration of the limits of freedom into three parts: freedom in society (situations after the end of World War II, student protests, new ideas and ideologies), freedom in theatre (especially in view of the emergence of new forms in art, literature and different ways of representing the themes of that time) and freedom in the performance Pupilija (use of the collage technique, non-classical theatrical elements, the presentation of taboo topics on stage). The sum of all these changes led to a performative turn, as a result of which the theatre freed itself from the dominance of literary proposals and words, and began to intervene in other performative elements, such as movement, music, mise-en- scène, objects, and facial expressions. The turn also affected the function of the spectators, as they no longer had the role of passive observers of the story, but co-created the theatrical event with the actors.
