We have studied the influence of glue type on quality of edgebanding for kitchen and bathroom furniture. We have studied glue joints between most commonly used materials for elements and fronts. For testing, we used particle board type P2, coated with decorative melamine foils and surface veneer. Boards were edgebanded on automatic edgebanding machine. For edgebanding were used melamine strip in thickness of 0.3 mm, ABS strips in thicknesses of the 1 and 2 mm and veneer strip in thickness of 2 mm. We used thermoplastic hotmelt glue Rakoll TE 5700, thermosetting hotmelt glue Jowatherm-Reaktant 607.40 and thermoplastic hotmelt glue Kleiberit Lasermelt 787.0. Test specimens were tested according to the standards SS 83 91 20, NS 8061 and internal standard of company Gorenje Austria (4.3). We have found out, that selection of glue type influences on the swelling of processed board edge. The best results were achieved by using thermosetting hotmelt glue Jowatherm-Reaktant 607.40, the worst by using thermoplastic hotmelt glue Rakoll TE 5700. We have found out, that it is the best and most reasonable to invest in the upgrading of the existent automatic edgebanding machine, which can be used for edgebanding with polyurethane based hotmelt glues.
