Abstract

Title:Mental distress of alcohol addicts during social integration after completion of treatment
Abstract:
Alcohol addiction is a major health and social problem. Alcoholism is a disease, a process that goes through different stages in which the alcoholic gradually degrades personally, socially and societally. The family adapts their behavior to support the alcoholic's vice. Family involvement in the alcoholic's treatment process is critical to success of the treatment. Therapists at the Club for Treated Alcoholics help alcoholics re-enter society, whereby patients learn new cognitive and behavioral skills of coping with life's demands without intoxication. On the way to rehabilitation they face various problems, mental distress and negative reactions from the environment, while they are greatly supporting each other. The group presents them with a safe space where they can face and correct their own shortcomings and develop new life skills. They gain self-esteem and improve their social functioning. With my master's thesis I want to find out what hardships are faced by people addicted to alcohol at the end of their treatment and how these hardships affect their abstinence.
