In my master's thesis, I research the effectiveness of the use of social work concepts in homes for elderly, in preventing violence against the elderly. Demographic changes show that future generations will face a large increase in old people, which may also bring with it an increase in violence against the elderly. Violence against the elderly does not only happen at home, behind the four walls, but also in institutions. In Slovenia, just under 5% of old people live in institutions, which represent their last home. I see social workers and their work as key to preventing violence in homes, and here, at the same time, their role as central in solving and finding solutions to the possible occurrence of violence and the response to it. The concepts of social work, with the correct use and intertwining of their role, can contribute a lot to social workers in creating a good climate in homes, raising awareness and creating preventive measures. The social worker plays a central role in the home. All stakeholders can contact them, and with good cooperation, the key task of preventing violence or its repetition is much easier. The social worker is therefore a complete factor, with the help of which we can contribute a lot to the prevention of violence against the elderly in homes. I am interested in what are the insights of professionals in this field, how they face hardships and how effectively they work in this field. I hope that my master's thesis and its results will be of help to professional workers who work in homes for elderly.
