Introduction: Today, blood cultures represent the gold standard, with the help of which we can identify the affected blood circulation, and based on the results, we can provide the patient with appropriate treatment. An important role in blood cultures is played by correct collection, which prevents their contamination. Contamination of blood cultures can prevent the rule of interpretation of the results, prolong the patient's time in bed, etc. For this reason, we also touch on the mentioned issue in the thesis. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to define the importance of correct blood culture collection. Methods: A descriptive research method was used, using a critical reading of relevant scientific and professional literature in the field of blood culture and the correct extraction of the following. Results: Based on the analyzed literature, we managed to identify three important areas that use contamination and use the possibility of correct removal; in doing so, we are touching on the reorientation of the initial sample, teams specialized in the collection of blood cultures and the establishment of education regarding the collection of blood cultures. Discussion and conclusion: The most important role in the prevention of contamination is certainly played by additional education, sharpening of practical skills, multidisciplinary (co)operation, and according to the review of the literature, devices for redirecting the initial sample also play an important role, the use of which would make sense especially in institutions where increased volume of withdrawals from the hemoculture.
