Abstract

Abstract:
The object of the research was the entire Hrastnik estate in KE Selca, where GPS unit was used to measure all sliding trails. The aim of the assignment wasto acquire accurate data on the forest openness, compare them with the old measured openness and determine discrepancies between the actual and target openness. It was established that no essential difference in the accuracy of data exists between the old measurements and the new, GPS calculated measurements. There are, however, differences in speed and difficulty of acquiring this information; GPS method quickly provides with reliable and accurate data. Afterwards, buffer zones were drawn around the sledges, providing the openness of the area with a 50m wire rope on the wood tractor. Taking into account that the openness between the compartments ranges from 63.2% to 75.3% and the sliding trail density does not exceed 150 m/ha -as directed in the Forest road regulation - possible development of the existing traffic network was planned.
