Abstract

Abstract:
We analized stand structure and regeneration of tree species in the Bohor forest management unit. Additionaly, we examined a possibility to supplement forest inventory on permanent sampling plots (PSP) with inventory of regeneration (dbh<10 cm). Research was carried out on the central part of Bohor, in two types of forest stands (fir-beech and spruce stands) and at two different forest sites (mountain beech forests on carbonate and on acid bedrock). Stand parameters were registered on 50 PSPs, with 500 m2 each. Four small plots were established within each PSP to measure and esimate stand and site parameters, and to register natural regeneration of tree species. Regeneration in older developement phases is successful, density of seedlings is 39802/ha. Forest stands on Bohor are specific due to efficient regenerationof silver fir; its share in total number of all seedlings (25.19 %) is larger than the share in total number of trees (24.80 %). Sycamore is prevailing in total number of seedlings (46.15 %), but its mortality is extremely high if compered to mortality of silver fir seedlings. The share of beech in total number of seedlings is surprisingly small (6.51 %). We established various regeneration patterns in different forest sites. Silver fir regeneration is more successful at acid site, sycamore regeneration at carbonate site. The research results indicate that both - stand structure and site conditions influence the regeneration patterns. The suggested inventory of regeneration can supplement current forest stand inventory - permanent sampling plot methodology. Informations about regeneration may be very important for decisions concerning further forest stand developement.
