Employees play a crucial role in the development and functioning of organizations, so it is essential to ensure that they are motivated and committed to their work. One of the key criteria for measuring engagement in work is the emotional intelligence of leaders. Therefore, the purpose of the master's thesis was to determine how the emotional intelligence of leaders affects the engagement of employees in task execution. The connection between the emotional intelligence of the leader and the level of employee engagement has significant implications for organizational success, productivity, and employee satisfaction. Understanding the impact of a leader's emotional intelligence allows for the development of more effective leadership practices, including training programs for leaders that emphasize the development of emotional intelligence and its positive influence on employee engagement.
The research for the master's thesis took place at the Administrative Unit Ljubljana. Employees responded to two anonymous questionnaires; the first assessed their opinion on the emotional intelligence of their leader, while the second focused on their engagement at work. A quantitative method was employed. The results were presented for the entire Administrative Unit Ljubljana and separately for departments and sectors. A positive correlation was found between the emotional intelligence of the leader and employee engagement at the Administrative Unit Ljubljana as a whole, as well as for each department and sector individually. It can be argued that emotional intelligence does have an impact on employee engagement and should be further developed to foster growth in engagement. This, in turn, could contribute to creating better working environments in organizations. The significance of the research lies in its application in the public sector, where organizations are constrained by bureaucratic obstacles such as laws, regulations, and policies.
