Abstract

Title:The Direction of Urban Development with Multiomodal Hubs: A Case of Urban Planning in the District Center Moste in Ljubljana
Abstract:
One of the key challenges facing modern cities is the integration of transportation and spatial planning. In addition to management, urban planning and design are crucial for its functioning. The master’s thesis defines the principle of “Transit-Oriented Development” (TOD) and related concepts that could assist in developing a model for the renovation and revitalization of existing district centers in Ljubljana as multimodal hubs. The selected location for testing the model is the area around the Moste district center. The test involves the idea of directing the existing district center of Moste towards the railway while simultaneously considering modern concepts based on reducing the need for trips or directing them towards sustainable modalities. Given that urban development shifted towards arterial roads after the Second World War, it is a significant challenge today, when there is a desire to give railways a more prominent role again, to reintegrate them with existing district centers. Developing such a solution requires strategic interventions at a broader scale, encompassing the city and region as a whole.
