Abstract

Title:Modelling of selected paintings as virtual reality spaces
Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to bring six artworks by Giorgio de Chirico into a three-dimensional space and create a coherent whole that allows users to interactively explore the paintings in a virtual reality environment. We used Blender for 3D modelling and Unity to develop the VR application, with the Oculus Quest 2 device used for the final demonstration. The development process involved several phases, from object modelling and scripting to building the app. Special attention was paid to recreating the correct perspectives and shadows to be consistent with de Chirico's work. The transition between scenes is designed as a series of dynamic transformations, where existing objects gradually change -- shifting, rotating and scaling, and changing their other properties to create a new composition that represents the next artwork in a cyclical sequence. This highlights the repetition of themes and motifs in the artist's work. We have also made it possible for users to compare real shadows with those depicted in the artist's work.
