Abstract

Title:The impact of employee silence on employee work performance in the selected organization
Abstract:
The diploma thesis examines employee silence and work performance as a multidimensional model. In the theoretical part of the thesis, it explores the dimensions of silence, causes, consequences and the factors influencing employee silence in the public organization, as well as the factors of work performance and its dimensions. The main aim of the thesis is to explore the relationships between different dimensions of employee silence (acquiescent, quiescent, prosocial and opportunistic) and various dimensions of work performance (task performance, contextual performance, counterproductive behaviour). The research part of the thesis, carried out with the help of a questionnaire, focuses on different forms of employee silence and work performance in a selected public health institution. It explores the relationships between acquiescent silence and contextual performance, quiescent silence and task performance, prosocial silence and contextual performance and between opportunistic silence and counterproductive behaviour. The results of the study indicate a negative association between employee silence and work performance, namely between acquiescent silence and contextual performance, and between opportunistic silence and counterproductive behaviour, however due to the small sample size, these relationships are not statistically significant. Prosocial silence and contextual performance are also negatively associated, but despite the small sample size, this association is statistically significant. The diploma thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of employee silence in the context of work performance in the public health sector in Slovenia. It is crucial for managers to be aware of this connection and to take appropriate measures to promote open communication and collaboration among employees, and remove barriers to employee expression to enhance overall employee work performance.
