With the use of fire, fires also arose. People protected themselves from them by establishing a fire department. Nowadays we know volunteer firefighters and professional firefighters. In order to become a professional firefighter, a candidate must be educated and trained. The main goal of education is the development of skills, values, knowledge and understanding. Training is the further development of these skills, which the candidate needs for a specific job. In the fire service, training is a planned learning system that leads to the full utilization of the candidate's personal potential in all areas of the fire service. In my thesis, I focused on the education and training of professional firefighters in Slovenia and the USA. First of all, I realized that comparing Slovenia with the entire USA will be extremely difficult due to the large number of institutions in the USA. That's why I chose one state, which is Kansas. Then I chose one center in the state of Kansas and compared it with the center in Slovenia. I studied in more detail the two educational centers, the training method for obtaining the profession of firefighter, the subject matter, practical training, the content of the professional exam or obtaining a national certificate, and finally where the candidates can get a job after finishing school. The comparative analysis is mainly based on these six more precisely processed areas of education and training of professional firefighters in the countries under consideration and highlights some specific characteristics of both countries, as a result of which we can more precisely determine the advantages and disadvantages of obtaining the profession of firefighter in different countries.
