Abstract

Title:Analysis of different methods for infiltration tests in unsaturated zone
Abstract:
The thesis reviews performance and interpretation of infiltration tests in eight shafts from Babno and Ložnica pri Celju in the east part of Slovenia. We performed non‑stationary percolation tests in the unsaturated zone of the aquifer. In the field, we made eight shafts with an excavator, in which we placed a non-perforated plastic pipe with an open bottom, into which we poured water and observed the lowering of the water level. We analyzed the data from the percolation tests using five different methods, the Hvorslev method, which is used for tests in the saturated zone, the open-end method, which can be used for wells with an open bottom for analyses above and below the groundwater level, and three methods for unsaturated area of the aquifer. The open hole-deep water table methods according to Glover and to the Stephens-Neuman and open-hole shallow water table according to Zangar. The calculated hydraulic conductivity in individual shafts were compared with each other for each method of analysis separately, we also defined the differences between the values of the hydraulic conductivity according to the different methods. We found that the Hvorslev method gives the highest values of the hydraulic conductivity, followed by the open-end method. The Glover method, Stephens-Neuman method, and Zangar method give the lowest values, but they are very similar to each other, and values are about ten times lower than the values calculated by the Hvorslev method.
