DEVELOPMENT OF AN APPLICATION FOR SUPPORTING THE SELECTION OF ELECTIVE COURSES AT FACULTY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Nowadays, information systems are crucial to successfully carrying out the activities in higher education. Understanding these information systems is crucial to successfully managing data. The data connected to student life and work has to be effectively ensured to support their decision-making.
The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to analyze information systems in higher education, to analyze student habits in acquiring data on elective courses, and to create a prototype of a mobile application for supporting the selection of elective courses at the Faculty of Public Administration. The functionalities of the mobile application are based on an analysis of the results of a student survey at the Faculty of Public Administration.
It has been discovered that a lot of students are insufficiently informed about the elective courses, which causes dissatisfaction with their choice. A mobile application would provide students with an additional method of gathering information and recommendations regarding elective courses, keeping them better informed.
The contribution of the thesis is the analysis and grouping of data on information systems in higher education and on their development, an analysis of the development of mobile applications as part of these information systems, and the development of a working prototype of an application for supporting the selection of elective courses.
The application could help students with acquiring information and making decisions about elective courses. Future research could examine application upgrades and provide a more detailed analysis of mobile applications in information systems in higher education.
