Abstract

Title:Quality of life of older people in Slovenia
Abstract:
The aging process spans from a person's birth to their death. Quality of life is defined as the degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction experienced by people in various aspects of their life. This thesis focuses on the quality of life of older individuals in Slovenia. The first part presents what demographic aging is, age and aging, as well as quality of life and factors influencing the change in quality of life in old age, namely: happiness as a factor of quality of life, health in old age, environment and economic status, and social networks. The second part of the thesis centers on the analysis and interpretation of data from the 2016 4th European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) conducted in Slovenia. In the conclusion of the thesis, we described findings that show gender differences in the quality of life of older individuals in terms of satisfaction with health. It was determined that individuals with a strong social network also have better health and well-being. Additionally, older individuals without chronic physical, mental, or health issues are more engaged and communicative with their family members, friends, and neighbors. Older individuals without chronic physical, mental, or health issues have higher net household income, and as household net income increases, their life satisfaction and happiness ratings also rise.
