Including museums and educational paths into history lessons represents a contemporary approach to conducting history lessons in primary schools. By introducing such methods, teachers activate and motivate their students. This Master’s Thesis puts forward a lesson Life in a medieval town conducted in Črnomelj city museum, and a historical educational path In the medieval Črnomelj. Both museum and educational path focus on the medieval period in what was then the Črnomelj settlement. They have both been successfully conducted with 7th grade students of the Loka Črnomelj primary school. The conducted survey showed that the museum lesson and the town’s educational path are considered to be noticeably more appealing than the classroom lessons. Our finding is that by including pupils in lessons outside the classroom, teachers foster not only knowledge, but also pupils’ skills, abilities, and attitudes towards museum employees and exhibits, as well as cultural monuments and buildings in town centre. By addressing local history, we also incite the feeling of local identity in pupils.
