Vpliv hladne plinske plazme na morfološke, fiziološke in biokemijske lastnosti semen in kalic izbranih rastlinskih vrst

Abstract
Plazma je ionizirajoči plin, ki se večinoma uporablja kot tehnika za obdelavo površin. Vse večje zanimanje za tehnologijo je tudi na področju kmetijstva. Hladno plazmo se uporablja za obdelavo semen za namen dekontaminacije semen ali pa z namenom vplivati na fiziologijo semen, da bi izboljšali kalivost in rast rastlin ter njihovo odpornost na abiotski stres. Dokazali smo, da obdelava semen s hladno plazmo vpliva tako na kemijske lastnosti površine, večinoma zaradi oksidacije lipidov, kot tudi na morfologijo površine pri daljših obdelavah. Odzivi semen na plazemsko obdelavo so vrstno in sortno specifični, na odziv pa vplivajo strukturne, kemijske in genetske lastnosti semen. Zaradi plazemske obdelave prihaja do prerazporejanja nekaterih elementov znotraj semen, daljše plazemske obdelave pa povzročijo iztekanje elementov iz semen zaradi poškodb membran. Prvi smo poskušali izboljšati biofortifikacijo semen in kalčkov navadne ajde s Zn s pomočjo plazemske pred-obdelave semen, vendar plazemska pred-obdelava ni pripomogla k večji koncentraciji Zn v semenih in kalčkih. Z raziskavami smo pokazali, da je pomembno ovrednotiti kemijske in morfološke spremembe na semenih, ter upoštevati strukturo in lastnosti preučevanih rastlinskih vrst. Dokazano prerazporejanje elementov v semenih po plazemski obdelavi odkriva novo področje raziskav, ki bo pomembno prispevalo k odkrivanju mehanizmov vpliva plazemske obdelave na semena.

Title:Effects of cold gas plasma on morphological, physiological and biochemical properties of seeds and seedlings of selected plant species
Abstract:
Plasma is an ionizing gas used as a surface treatment technique. The technology is also gaining interest in the field of agriculture. Cold plasma is used to treat seeds for the purpose of seed decontamination or to influence seed physiology to improve germination, plant growth and resistance to abiotic stress. We have demonstrated cold plasma treatment of seeds affects the chemical and morphological properties of the surface, especially in longer plasma treatments. The responses of seeds to plasma treatment is species and variety specific, and is influenced by the structural, chemical and genetic characteristics of the seeds. As a result of the plasma treatment, some elements are redistributed in the seeds, and longer plasma treatments cause the leakage of elements out of the seeds due to the compromised membrane permeability. We report the first attempt to improve biofortification of buckwheat seeds and sprouts with Zn by plasma pre-treatment of seeds. However, plasma pre-treatment did not contribute to a higher concentration of Zn in seeds and sprouts. The proven redistribution of elements in seeds after plasma treatment opens up a new field of research that will significantly contribute to discovering the mechanisms of the effect of plasma treatment on seeds.
