Abstract
The Sežana municipal waste landfill closed in 2015 after having been operational for more than 50 years. Ever since, efforts have been made in order to monitor, discern and remediate the effects of the old landfill onto the environment. Moreover, the mere fact CERO Sežana is located on the extremely vulnerable karstic Kras plateau adds levels of significance to the closure process. The thesis is intended to provide an in-depth analysis of leachate production within the waste-body in addition to its significance in comparison to the overall water balance of the karstic aquifer. In order to perform this analysis two separate water balance models had to be constructed. Firstly, a water balance model of the Kras massive was created using existing data in conjunction with data obtained from flow measurement stations. Secondly, a Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) numerical model was produced. Ultimately quantitative and qualitative data was discerned from each model. Combining and comparing the results gave us valuable insight into the influence of the landfill.

Title:Vodna bilanca komunalnega odlagališča Sežana : master thesis
Abstract:
Odlagališče komunalnih odpadkov Sežana je bilo po 58 let obratovanja zaprto leta 2015. Po zaprtju je bilo veliko napora vloženega v različne monitoringe, sanacije ter ocene vpliva odlagališča na okolje. Odlagališče se nahaja na izjemno ranljivi kraški planoti – Krasu v katerem leži občutljiv kraški vodonosnik, zato je analiza vplivov odlagališča po njegovem zaprtju še toliko pomembnejša. Izdelana sta bila dva vodno bilančna modela odlagalnega telesa. Najprej je bil vzpostavljen splošni model vodne bilance vodonosnika Krasa. Pri tem so bili uporabljeni podatki dosedanjih raziskav in javno dostopni podatki hidroloških in meteoroloških postaj na širšem območju. V drugem koraku je bil vzpostavljen vodno bilančni model odlagalnega telesa HELP, ki temelji na geometriji odlagališča in hidrodinamičnih lastnostih prekrivke odlagalnega telesa. Podatki o lastnostih prekrivke so bili pridobljeni z izvajanjem infiltracijskih testov na lokaciji. Rezultate obeh modelov opredelimo kot kvantitativne in kvalitativne. Povezava med volumetrično analizo izcednih voda in bilance kraškega vodonosnika je podala dragocen vpogled v vpliv odlagališča na podzemne vode.
