Abstract

Title:The role of employer factors in attracting job seekers and retaining employees
Abstract:
t is crucial for organizations to be able to attract and retain employees to maintain a competitive edge. To create effective recruitment strategies, it is important to understand what attracts job seekers and what deters them. The aim of the study was to identify the dimensions of attractiveness that Slovenian jobseekers and employees rate as important when choosing an employer, the differences in the selected dimensions of employer attractiveness according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, which factors are the most important when switching jobs, whether participants from different demographic groups rate different factors as important when switching jobs, and to investigate the relationship between employer attractiveness factors and the factors influencing switching jobs. The survey was carried out among 351 working-age Slovenians (273 women and 77 men) and is based on an analysis of the results of the Employer Attractiveness Scale (Berthon, 2005) and the Job Switching Factors Scale. The survey reveals that participants are most attracted to employers that provide a supportive work environment, opportunities for development and positive relationships between colleagues. Financial aspects are less important in choosing an employer, but more important in changing jobs. In addition, the factors that attracted employees to an organisation are not necessarily the same as the factors that will make them change jobs. The results of the survey highlight the diverse preferences of individuals and the need to adapt HR strategies to attract and retain employees.
