The master thesis presents the idea of a potential solution to the housing problem of young adults in Tolmin.
In the assignment, I investigate the reason why there is a housing shortage in Tolminsko, who is affected by it the most and what consequences it brings to the development of the town. I study the location possibilities of placing new buildings and design an alternative approach to gradually solve the problem the town is facing. At the same time I am restoring cohesion of the city, as I am removing the remains of the industrial zone, which got surrounded by a sleeping settlement during the expansion of the place. The result of the work is the conceptual design of a new residential neighborhood for young adults. There can be found non-profit rental apartments in the area of the former industrial zone in Zalog district in Tolmin. By placing different typologies of buildings on the site, diversity and a strong identity of the space is created. With its exterior, the project aims to approach the traditional Kobarid-Tolmin construction style in a modern way and with its interior it justifies its modernity. The apartments are designed flexibly and the floor plan can be adjusted according to the lifestyle of the tenants and the potential growth of the family.
With my idea, I want to provide a place that young people can count on. The project therefore allows living in a residential unit until the upper age limit, which is set at the age of 35. After the age limit is reached, the unit is vacated and handed over to the next, younger tenant.
I am designing a system that enables young adults to quickly become independent and have their own space, designed according to the individual’s own needs and wishes. Their own nest.
