Abstract

Title:Causes and implications of sea level rise in the selected Oceania countries
Abstract:
The topic of climate change has been very important in recent decades, since the second half of the 20th century we have recorded the greatest changes in climate in such a short time to date. One of the consequences of the changes is rising sea level, which many countries in Oceania are already experiencing, as the level of the Pacific Ocean is rising faster than the global average. This poses a major adjustment problem, as countries are among those with very low gross domestic product. The diploma thesis examines and presents the effects of sea level rise in the case of seven selected countries of Oceania (Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu), which contribute least to greenhouse gas emissions globally, but the effects of emissions are most noticeable here. We found that these countries are adapting to change in a variety of ways, resisting mainly short-term ways of adapting in line with their capacity to invest.
