Abstract

Title:Spatial Development Concept for Tourism and Recreation in the area of Šentviška plateau
Abstract:
With the adoption of Agenda 21 (1992), the members of the international organisation the United Nations committed to sustainable development and have then reaffirmed their commitment to it with the Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015). Tourism is one of the fastest-growing economic sectors and plays a key role in the sustainable development of a country and its tourist destinations, though it could also have negative consequences on society and space. This thesis aims to suggest a spatial development proposal regarding the development of tourism and recreation on the Šentviška Gora Plateau (sl. Šentviška planota), which is economically not as developed as other rural areas in Slovenia, even though it has great potential for development of a sustainable tourist offer due to its natural features. The content of the proposal is based on theoretical bases of relevant strategic documentation and its guidelines, on space analysis and the inventory of tourist offers and infrastructure, and on opinions of inhabitants and tourists that were sourced through a survey questionnaire. It also complies with the stipulations of sector-specific acts, economic and socially cultural in character. The proposal gives general guidelines for the further development of the selected area, especially the development of tourism and recreation, all while considering the selected goals of sustainable development. Based on the goals, we designed programmes with measures that allow for a quality tourist experience and a sustainable development of the tourist destination Šentviška Gora Plateau. The planned proposal and infrastructure are shown on two maps.
